Don't Sweat The Small Stuff

"Today sucked. Worst day ever!" Says Jack "I'm sorry, what happened?" says Jill. “Well I woke up and…”

We've all had those days where it feels like nothing went right. It's going to happen on occasion. You may have spilled your coffee on the floor of favorite shirt, traffic was terrible getting to work, you left your gym shoes at home when you planned to workout after you got off.

We can’t control what happens to us. One thing we always control is our response and perspective on the matter. If it's not going to matter in 5 minutes, don't spend more than 5 seconds dwelling on it. If it's not going to matter in 5 hours, don't spend more than 5 minutes on it.

Show a little compassion for honest mistakes that affect you in a mild fashion. I’m not saying they should be excused, but you’ll catch more flies with honey than you ever will with vinegar.

What are the characteristics of the people you spend the most time with? Does it seem like every other thing they say is a complaint about something? Is everything somebody else’s fault? Do they have a sense of entitlement whether they realize it or not? If your circle includes any/all of these traits, then they aren’t making it easier to be a happier more positive person. Surround yourself with positive, appreciative people because trust me it’s contagious.

So clean up your spilled coffee, enjoy a few extra minutes of your favorite song on your commute in the bad traffic, get a fun little workout in at your house when you get home, and be happy!
